The Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) is a globally recognized internal audit certification awarded by The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA-USA). It validates your knowledge of internal auditing standards, governance, risk management, internal controls, IT and business acumen.

The CIA exams are scored on a scale of 250 to 750. You need a scaled score of 600 to pass each part. Unofficial results appear immediately on screen after your exam, and official results are usually available within 1–2 days.

No. You can take CIA Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3 in any order. We typically recommend starting with Part 1, as it builds your foundation in internal auditing standards and concepts.

Once your application is approved by IIA, you generally have three years to pass all three CIA exam parts. There is also a one-time extension option available from IIA for a fee.
