CAMS financial crime training workshop in South Africa
Live CAMS teaching is designed to connect financial-crime concepts with real workplace decisions.

Career fit

Who should take a CAMS course in South Africa?

CAMS is most useful when anti-money-laundering controls, customer risk, investigations, sanctions, reporting or financial-crime governance are already becoming part of your work.

01

AML and compliance professionals

For teams working with onboarding, CDD, EDD, screening, monitoring, reporting or control testing.

02

Banking, payments and fintech teams

For professionals who need a stronger risk lens around customers, transactions, products and escalation decisions.

03

Audit, legal and investigations professionals

For people supporting investigations, governance, regulatory response, internal controls or financial-crime advisory.

Choose the route for the work you want to do. CAMS is a focused financial-crime credential; it is not a substitute for every audit, law, fraud, risk or general accounting qualification.

South Africa context

How CAMS Fits South Africa’s FICA, FIC & Financial-Crime Environment

CAMS provides a global anti-financial-crime framework. In South Africa, professionals also work within the FIC Act and institution-specific requirements. Accountable institutions need risk-based frameworks covering RMCP governance, customer due diligence, beneficial ownership, PEPs, targeted financial sanctions, transaction monitoring, suspicious and unusual transaction reporting, record keeping and employee training.

CAMS does not replace FICA-specific legal advice or institution-specific regulatory training. Its value is strengthening the broader AML/AFC framework professionals use alongside those local obligations.

Updated context: FATF removed South Africa from its list of jurisdictions under increased monitoring on 24 October 2025 after the country completed its action plan. Sustaining effective AML/CFT/CPF capability remains important. For live requirements, internal policies and reportable matters, teams should use their own legal and compliance governance alongside guidance from the Financial Intelligence Centre.

“The useful shift is from memorising a control to asking what risk it is designed to detect, reduce or escalate.”
Shyam Sarrof, CAMS faculty lead

Choose the right route

CAMS, a local AML programme, CIA or CFE?

Choose based on the professional problem you need to solve next, not only the longest credential name.

Route Core focus Usually best when
CAMS Global AML/AFC specialist credential Your role centres on AML, KYC, sanctions, monitoring or financial crime.

CFE Fraud examination and investigations Fraud casework or investigation is your primary direction.
CIA Internal audit, assurance and governance Broader internal audit is the core career path.
Career relevance, not a promise

CAMS Career Relevance in South Africa

Progress can support stronger conversations about customer risk, onboarding evidence, monitoring alerts, sanctions screening, escalation and control design. It does not guarantee a job, promotion or salary increase; outcomes also depend on role scope, experience, employer needs and market conditions.

In Shyam’s teaching, learners get more value when they connect course concepts to a decision they actually face: whether an alert needs escalation, what evidence is missing, how a policy should work in practice, or how a risk narrative should be documented.

AML / compliance

AML analyst, senior AML analyst, compliance officer or manager.

Customer risk

KYC, CDD or EDD analyst supporting onboarding and reviews.

Screening and monitoring

Sanctions screening or transaction-monitoring analyst.

Financial-crime work

Investigator, AFC advisory professional, or MLRO/deputy-MLRO pathway.

Faculty perspective: the candidates who progress steadily are not always the ones who start with the most AML experience. They are usually the ones who practise interpreting a scenario early, identify why a control exists and revisit weak areas before the final mock phase.

Corporate learning experience

Training shaped around the realities of professional teams.

EduDelphi has supported learning for professionals and teams connected with widely recognised organisations. Corporate CAMS routes can be planned nationwide around attendance, role mix and the team’s learning priorities.

Case-based learning

We teach CAMS through realistic cases, not theory in isolation.

At EduDelphi, case-study discussion is an important part of CAMS learning. Over the past decade, this approach has helped learners turn technical concepts into practical judgement: what to question, what evidence matters, how risk signals connect and when escalation needs a clearer narrative.

Example: a business customer has regular domestic activity, then begins making larger payments through a new channel. The documentation looks complete, but the transaction pattern does not clearly match the customer profile and one director is difficult to verify.

Learners consider how the facts could interact with customer-risk methodology, ongoing monitoring, CDD evidence and the institution’s RMCP-based escalation process. The purpose is not to provide a legal answer, but to practise disciplined risk reasoning.
