For English CMA exams in Africa, case-based questions replace essays from the September/October 2026 testing window onward. Candidates complete 100 multiple-choice questions first and must answer at least 50% correctly to progress to the case-based question section. The CMA syllabus and four-hour exam duration remain unchanged.

US CMA Exam Format, Windows & Passing Score
Plan both parts around the official format and the window you intend to book. IMA offers three annual CMA testing windows: January/February, May/June and September/October.

How is the US CMA exam scored?
A minimum scaled score of 360 is required on each part. Candidates need at least 50% MCQ performance to access the case-based section. The CBQ section carries the same weight as the former essay section, and partial credit can apply. A score of 360 is not the same thing as answering 72% of questions correctly.
US CMA Eligibility in South Africa
There is no single generic “CMA qualification” rule. IMA makes the final certification determination against its current membership, education, experience and exam requirements.

Two continuous years of qualifying management-accounting or financial-management experience are required, before or within seven years after passing.
Candidates may complete the exams before satisfying the full experience requirement. You can take CMA Part 1 or Part 2 first; IMA does not require a fixed exam order. IMA’s current education and experience rules should be checked before payment or application.
