Why EduDelphi

Why take live CPIM training instead of studying alone?

Reading can teach terminology. Strong CPIM preparation also requires you to connect planning decisions, interpret scenarios and choose the best answer—not merely an answer that could be true.

  • Ask questions while the planning logic is being explained.
  • See how demand, capacity, materials, schedules and inventory affect one another.
  • Practise calculations and application-based questions with guided support.
  • Review why the closest alternative fails, not only why one answer is correct.
  • Use mock performance and recurring errors to target revision.
  • Speak directly with faculty when a difficult concept needs clarification.

Understand the credential

What is CPIM certification and who issues it?

CPIM stands for Certified in Planning and Inventory Management. It is a professional certification awarded by the Association for Supply Chain Management through its APICS certification brand. Older resources may use the former name “Certified in Production and Inventory Management.”

ASCM

Issues the certification

ASCM controls the examination, official policies, credential requirements and certification maintenance.

CPIM

Builds planning and inventory depth

The syllabus covers strategy, S&OP, demand, supply, inventory, schedules, distribution and improvement.

EduDelphi

Provides exam preparation

EduDelphi delivers independent training, practice, mocks, recordings, revision and candidate support.

Review the official ASCM CPIM information for the latest certification-body rules.

Keep the costs clear

What do you need to earn CPIM?

EduDelphi preparation and the official certification process are separate. This table shows the buying journey without mixing tuition with certification-body charges.

Item Required? Managed by
EduDelphi CPIM preparation Optional preparation route EduDelphi
Official CPIM examination Yes—to earn the credential ASCM
ASCM membership No; membership may affect pricing and benefits ASCM
ASCM CPIM Learning System No formal eligibility requirement; optional official preparation product ASCM

Current examination blueprint

CPIM 9.0 syllabus: nine content areas and weightings

CPIM 9.0 is the current English-language exam blueprint for examinations administered beginning June 1, 2026, according to the official CPIM 9.0 Exam Content Manual and ASCM’s current exam-reference guidance. The nine areas work as one planning system rather than nine disconnected chapters.

CPIM 9.0 content area Approx. weight What you need to understand
1. Supply Chains and Strategy 12% Competitive priorities, business strategy, financial measures, risk, sustainability and organizational alignment.
2. Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) 10% Balancing aggregate demand and supply, resource choices, executive decisions and cross-functional alignment.
3. Demand 12% Demand management, forecasting, customer relationships, forecast error and demand communication.
4. Internal Supply 12% Master scheduling, material requirements planning, capacity, product structures and internal supply plans.
5. External Supply and Key Suppliers 11% Sourcing, supplier relationships, purchasing, external capacity, risk and supply performance.
6. Inventory 14% Inventory purpose, costs, policies, replenishment, safety stock, accuracy and financial consequences.
7. Detailed Schedules 12% Sequencing, scheduling methods, order release, execution, constraints and production control.
8. Distribution 8% Distribution planning, replenishment, warehousing, transportation and customer-service performance.
9. Quality, Continuous Improvement, and Technology 9% Quality systems, improvement methods, technology, capital choices and performance improvement.

The exact blueprint and terminology are available in the official CPIM 9.0 Exam Content Manual.

CPIM 8.0 vs CPIM 9.0: Which Version Is Current in 2026?

CPIM 9.0 is the current blueprint for English-language exams administered beginning June 1, 2026. CPIM 8.0 material may still appear in older courses, books and search results, but candidates preparing for a current exam should use material explicitly aligned with CPIM 9.0.

Experience the teaching method

See how we teach CPIM exam questions

CPIM questions often contain several statements that appear reasonable. Strong preparation means identifying the governing planning principle and the best next action.

Original EduDelphi practice scenario

A manufacturer’s updated demand plan exceeds demonstrated capacity at its constrained work center for the next quarter. Customer-service performance is the priority, but inventory and overtime costs must remain controlled. What should the planning team do first?

A Release planned production orders early for every item.
B Increase safety stock across all finished products.
C Use the S&OP process to evaluate demand and supply alternatives before changing detailed schedules.
D Add a supplier immediately without reviewing the affected product families.
See the trainer’s reasoning
What is being testedThe hierarchy between aggregate planning decisions and detailed execution.
The clue that mattersThe constraint affects the next quarter and requires a cross-functional balance of service, capacity and cost.
Why C is bestS&OP is the appropriate level for evaluating demand shaping, capacity, inventory and service alternatives before execution plans are changed.
Why the alternatives failA and B commit resources before the aggregate trade-off is agreed. D selects a solution before scope, feasibility and economics are evaluated.

This is an original EduDelphi learning scenario. It is not a live, recalled or official ASCM examination question.

Official examination structure

CPIM exam format, questions, time and passing score

The current CPIM examination is one computer-based exam. Knowing the structure early helps you build the right practice pace and avoid advice based on older CPIM versions.

1 examCurrent CPIM certification examination
150Questions: 130 scored and 20 unscored pretest items
3.5 hoursOfficial examination time
300+Passing score on a 200–350 scaled range

How the score works

300 is a scaled score—not 80%

ASCM reports CPIM results on a 200–350 scaled range. A score of 300 or higher passes. It is not a published raw percentage or a fixed number of correct answers.

How the exam is delivered

Pearson VUE test center or OnVUE

Current ASCM exam information supports appointments at Pearson VUE test centers and online-proctored delivery through OnVUE, subject to current eligibility, system and appointment requirements.

Check the latest ASCM exam details and Pearson VUE appointment information before booking.

Entry requirements

CPIM eligibility and prerequisites

There is currently no formal degree or work-experience prerequisite for the CPIM examination. ASCM membership is also not required to pursue the certification.

  • You can begin CPIM preparation without a university degree.
  • You can pursue the exam without a minimum number of years in supply chain.
  • You need an ASCM account or ID to use the official certification process.
  • Membership is optional and may affect pricing or member benefits.
  • Planning or operations experience can help, but it is not a formal entry condition.

ASCM makes the final decisions on its examination and certification policies. Confirm the current position through the official certification FAQs.

U.S. career context

Is CPIM certification worth it in the United States?

CPIM can be a strong fit when your work depends on planning depth: demand, supply, production, materials, capacity, inventory and operating performance. Its value depends on your role, experience, employer and how well you apply the knowledge.

ASCM 2026 survey

US$98,500 median base salary

ASCM’s 2026 survey reports a U.S. median base salary of US$98,500 and median total compensation of US$103,500 for supply-chain professionals in its respondent group.

Certification signal

ASCM respondent data reports a 15% salary premium for CPIM holders

This is an association within ASCM’s survey sample; it does not establish that CPIM alone caused the difference.

U.S. labor context

Demand across supply-chain work

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects 18% growth for logisticians from 2025 to 2035, with about 26,600 openings per year. CPIM careers extend beyond this single occupation.

How long is the CPIM exam?

The official exam time is 3.5 hours.

What score do I need to pass CPIM?

You need a scaled score of 300 or higher on ASCM’s 200–350 range. A score of 300 is not the same as 80% and ASCM does not publish a fixed number of correct answers required.

What is the CPIM exam pass rate?

ASCM does not publish a current overall CPIM 9.0 pass-rate percentage. Be cautious with any provider claim that does not explain the cohort, period and source. Among CPIM learners who reported a verified examination result to EduDelphi from 2020 to the present, 93% passed on their first attempt; this result-reporting cohort is not a guarantee of an individual outcome.

Are there CPIM eligibility requirements?

There is currently no formal degree or work-experience prerequisite for the examination. ASCM controls the official process and may update its policies.

Do I need ASCM membership for CPIM?

No. ASCM membership is not required to pursue certification, although membership may affect current pricing and member benefits.

Does EduDelphi include the official ASCM CPIM Learning System?

The base EduDelphi preparation route uses EduDelphi’s own live teaching, recordings, LMS resources, 3,000+ practice questions and mocks. The official ASCM CPIM Learning System is a separate optional ASCM product unless your written package specifically states otherwise.

Do I have to buy the ASCM CPIM Learning System to take the exam?

No. ASCM currently provides separate CPIM Learning System, bundle and exam-purchase routes. The official examination is required to earn CPIM; the preparation system you use is your study choice.

How many total hours should I study for CPIM?

ASCM currently recommends approximately 100 hours of study on average. EduDelphi’s live course provides 45+ guided training hours, with additional reading, questions, mocks and revision completed outside class.

Can I take the CPIM exam online?

ASCM currently supports online-proctored delivery through Pearson VUE’s OnVUE platform, as well as test-center appointments, subject to current requirements and availability.

How much does EduDelphi CPIM preparation cost?

EduDelphi CPIM preparation packages start from US$500. The exact tuition depends on the selected learning route. Official ASCM examination and certification costs are separate.

Does the course include live training and recordings?

Live group preparation includes 45+ hours of trainer-led learning, and sessions are recorded for revision. Self-paced routes provide recorded learning without scheduled live classes.

How many CPIM practice questions are included?

EduDelphi provides 3,000+ practice questions covering concepts, calculations and application-based scenarios, with explanations for correct and incorrect answer choices.

How long is CPIM certification valid?

CPIM is maintained rather than simply held forever. Under current ASCM requirements, CPIM holders submit 75 professional-development maintenance points during each five-year cycle. Confirm current maintenance rules with ASCM.

Can my employer pay for the course?

Yes. EduDelphi supports employer invoices, purchase-order processes, private corporate cohorts and manager-approval information.

Is CPIM better than CSCP?

Neither is universally better. CPIM is usually the stronger fit for detailed planning, inventory, production, materials, capacity and scheduling. CSCP is broader across the end-to-end supply chain.
