Choose the right starting level

CIPS Level 4 entry requirements and starting point

Level 4 is commonly suited to candidates with relevant business or procurement experience, suitable prior education or completion of CIPS Level 3. It is also the highest standard entry point in the current CIPS qualification pathway.

If you are new to procurement, we can help you compare Level 3 and Level 4. If you already work with suppliers, contracts, sourcing, purchasing or commercial decisions, Level 4 may be the more suitable starting point.

Ask for a profile review if you are:

  • Moving into procurement from supply chain, operations or finance
  • Unsure whether to begin at Level 3 or Level 4
  • Returning to study after a long break
  • Concerned about written CR assessments
  • Planning individual modules before the full programme

Objective Response L4M2–L4M7 60 computer-based questions 90 minutes 70%
Constructed Response L4M1 and L4M8 Four written questions 3 hours 50%
OR tests selection and application. CR requires you to build a clear written answer using the scenario, relevant theory and procurement judgement.
Prepare for both assessment styles

How EduDelphi prepares you for OR and CR exams

  • Timed practice and full mocks
  • Performance tracking by learning outcome
  • Targeted revision for weaker areas

  • Applying concepts to the case
  • Time management and answer structure
  • Individual marking, feedback and rewriting
  • Model-answer and mock debriefs
A flexible route through Level 4

CIPS sets a total qualification-time framework of 600 hours: 250 guided-learning hours, 335 hours of self-study and 15 assessment hours. EduDelphi’s 70–90 guided preparation hours sit within your wider study and assessment plan.

1

Learn the module

Attend the teaching, use the study guide and build a clear understanding of the learning outcomes.

2

Practise by topic

Complete OR questions or CR writing tasks, review mistakes and return to weaker areas.

3

Prepare for assessment

Complete timed mocks, use focused revision and practise the exact format you will face.

Your completion plan can remain flexible. It may cover the complete programme, a smaller set of modules or one assessment at a time.

Australian procurement case

Choosing a supplier for an Australian organisation

Imagine an Australian organisation needs a new supplier for a business-critical service. The cheapest bid looks attractive, but the evaluation also needs to consider capability, service continuity, contract risk, responsible sourcing and whole-of-life value.

  1. Define the need: turn stakeholder requirements into a clear specification.
  2. Analyse the market: understand supplier options, competition and risk.
  3. Evaluate bids: use clear criteria rather than price alone.
  4. Plan the negotiation: decide objectives, variables and limits.
  5. Contract clearly: record responsibilities, performance and remedies.
  6. Manage the relationship: measure delivery and address issues early.

This is how the course connects multiple modules to one practical procurement decision.

How CIPS learning applies in Australian procurement roles

The qualification is global. EduDelphi uses selected Australian examples so the learning feels relevant to the commercial and public-sector environments learners may work in.

Resources and infrastructure

Supplier capacity, continuity, project procurement, contracting, logistics and whole-of-life asset value are central to mining, energy, construction and infrastructure work.

Government and public value

Australian public procurement places strong emphasis on value for money, accountable decisions, risk and transparent processes. Employer-specific rules still apply.

Responsible sourcing

Modern-slavery risk, ethical supply chains, sustainability, supplier diversity and Indigenous procurement can shape sourcing decisions and due diligence.

Corporate procurement

Financial services, technology, retail, healthcare and professional services need clear business requirements, commercial contracts and supplier performance.

Supply resilience

Long transport routes, regional operations and international suppliers make continuity, inventory, lead-time and supplier-risk decisions especially important.

Nationwide access

Join from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Canberra or regional Australia through live online and flexible learning options.

Australian examples support learning; they do not replace organisation-specific Commonwealth, state, sector or internal procurement requirements.
