Course Fit

What Is CPIM and Who Should Take It?

Certified in Planning and Inventory Management (CPIM) is ASCM’s professional certification for people who plan, coordinate or improve demand, supply, materials, inventory, schedules and internal operations.

APICS CPIM remains a familiar search and industry term because of the credential’s history, but ASCM is the current credential body. EduDelphi provides independent preparation; passing the official exam and meeting ASCM’s requirements is what earns the certification.

CPIM is particularly relevant if you work with:

  • Demand, supply, production or material planning.
  • Inventory policy, replenishment, availability or working capital.
  • MPS, MRP, capacity or detailed schedules.
  • ERP-supported planning in SAP, Oracle, Dynamics or similar systems.
  • Manufacturing, industrial supply, FMCG, distribution or spare parts.
  • Planning responsibilities spanning procurement, warehouses and customer service.

What You Will Be Able to Do After the Course

The intended outcome is stronger planning judgement as well as exam readiness.

Connect plans

Relate business priorities to S&OP, demand, supply, materials, capacity, inventory and execution.

Evaluate trade-offs

Balance service, inventory, cost, lead time, capacity, risk and operational constraints.

Read planning signals

Interpret forecast performance, MPS/MRP outputs, inventory measures and scheduling exceptions.

Apply the sequence

Identify which decision belongs at strategy, S&OP, master planning, material planning or execution level.

Explain recommendations

Support planning choices with the right concepts, calculations and scenario evidence.

Handle exam scenarios

Distinguish close answer choices and select the best response under ASCM-style application logic.

Everything Included in EduDelphi’s CPIM Course

Live Faculty-Led Preparation

Complete CPIM 9.0 coverage through 45+ guided hours with examples drawn from planning, inventory, manufacturing, industrial supply and GCC operating environments.

  • Weekday, weekend and fast-track options.
  • Classroom and live online delivery.
  • Private and corporate routes.
  • Faculty-led revision and doubt clinics.

AI-Enabled LMS

Organised lessons, recorded lectures, study notes, mind maps, quizzes and progress support in one learning environment.

3,000+ Questions

Original concept, calculation and application practice mapped across all nine CPIM 9.0 areas.

Multiple Full Mocks

Timed 150-question simulations followed by performance and error-pattern analysis.

Certification Guidance

Support understanding the ASCM account, official process, exam scheduling and maintenance journey.

Preparation Method

Learn, Apply, Practise, Diagnose, Revise and Simulate

Every stage has a job. Reading alone does not create planning judgement, and raw question volume does not correct misunderstood logic.

Learn

Build the concept and its position in the planning hierarchy.

Apply

Use the idea in a calculation, operating decision or connected case.

Practise

Complete focused questions and review why each alternative succeeds or fails.

Diagnose

Classify knowledge, sequence, calculation, scenario-reading and timing errors.

Revise

Prioritise weak areas using faculty feedback and readiness data.

Simulate

Complete full timed mocks and build a final examination plan.

See CPIM as One Connected Planning System

A change in demand can alter capacity, materials, supplier requirements, inventory, schedules and distribution. The course repeatedly connects those consequences.

CPIM Planning Lab: Work Through an S&OP → MPS → MRP → Capacity → Inventory Decision

Learners work through one connected planning case rather than only discussing isolated definitions.

  • Reconcile a 1,200-unit demand plan with 950 units of confirmed capacity.
  • Assess a component lead-time change from 21 to 37 days.
  • Translate the S&OP response into MPS, MRP and capacity implications.
  • Evaluate inventory, supplier and scheduling choices.
  • Track the decision through service, inventory and planning KPIs.

3,000+ CPIM Questions With Feedback That Changes What You Revise

The value is not only the number of questions. It is the sequence, explanation and diagnosis behind them.

  • Area-wise concept and terminology practice.
  • Calculation and interpretation drills.
  • Connected scenario questions.
  • Cumulative mixed-area tests.
  • Multiple full-length timed mocks.
  • Faculty-led answer-review sessions.

Error diagnosis

Understand why an answer went wrong

  • Missing or confused concept
  • Wrong planning level or sequence
  • Calculation setup or interpretation error
  • Missed scenario evidence
  • Plausible answer—not the best ASCM answer
  • Timing or careless-reading error

Questions are original EduDelphi preparation content. They are not official, recalled or live ASCM examination questions.

Current Blueprint

CPIM 9.0 Syllabus: Nine Content Areas and Exam Weightings

Inventory is the largest single area at 14%, but the blueprint is balanced. No area is safe to ignore.

12%10%12%12%11%14%12%8%9%

Areas appear below in official blueprint order.

I. Align the Supply Chain to Support the Business Strategy — 12%

Competitive priorities, operating environments, strategy, risk, sustainability and performance measures. Learners connect market requirements with operating choices and KPIs.

II. Conduct Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) to Support Strategy — 10%

S&OP purpose, aggregate demand and supply, resource decisions, reconciliation and executive alignment. The Planning Lab includes a demand-supply imbalance and resolution exercise.

III. Plan and Manage Demand — 12%

Demand management, forecasting, customer relationships, data, forecast performance and communication. Learners diagnose error, bias and exceptional demand.

IV. Plan and Manage Internal Supply Sources — 12%

Planning environments, master scheduling, available-to-promise, MRP, capacity and internal supply decisions. Exercises connect product structures, time-phased requirements and capacity constraints.

V. Plan and Manage External Supply Sources — 11%

Sourcing, suppliers, purchasing, maintenance, supply risk, sustainability and external capacity. This corresponds to the Learning System module commonly titled External Supply and Key Support Functions.

VI. Plan and Manage Inventory — 14%

Inventory purpose, costs, planning, replenishment, safety stock, classification, accuracy and control. Learners build an inventory policy and evaluate service-versus-working-capital trade-offs.

VII. Plan, Manage, and Execute Detailed Schedules — 12%

Scheduling methods, sequencing, order release, production activity control, constraints and execution. Scenarios require priority decisions when capacity and materials do not align.

VIII. Plan and Manage Distribution — 8%

Distribution planning, DRP, replenishment, warehousing, transportation and customer-service performance. Learners connect network decisions with inventory positioning.

IX. Manage Quality, Continuous Improvement, and Technology — 9%

Quality systems, improvement approaches, technology, capital choices and performance improvement. Learners interpret improvement evidence rather than treating quality tools as isolated definitions.

Verified against the current ASCM CPIM 9.0 Exam Content Manual. Official policies and terminology remain controlled by ASCM.

Original Integrated Teaching Case

An Oman Planning Decision Across CPIM Areas

An Oman-based industrial supplier imports critical components through Sohar, assembles selected products locally and supports energy customers with strict availability targets. Demand rises unexpectedly while a key supplier extends lead time and one local work centre is capacity-constrained.

Original EduDelphi teaching scenario—not official, recalled or live ASCM examination content.

How learners work through it

  1. Separate strategic priorities from execution symptoms.
  2. Update the demand view and assess forecast bias.
  3. Reconcile the aggregate plan through S&OP.
  4. Test MPS, MRP and capacity consequences.
  5. Evaluate supplier, buffer and inventory choices.
  6. Set schedule and replenishment priorities.
  7. Define measures that show whether the response worked.

CPIM thinking sequence: objective → planning level → constraint → trade-off → decision owner → execution → performance feedback.
