What is CITF?

The Certificate in International Trade and Finance is a Level 3 qualification from LIBF, part of Walbrook Institute London. It covers trade parties, settlement methods, financing, documentation and trade risk.

EduDelphi provides independent training and preparation. LIBF controls qualification registration, assessment and the award of CITF.

Who is this course for?

Trade operations and transaction-banking professionals, importers, exporters, trading-company teams, treasury staff and professionals moving into trade finance.

No formal entry qualification is required. Relevant banking or trade experience helps, but you can also join to build a clear foundation.

What Your CITF Course Includes

Teaching, resources and practice work together, so you have a clear route from understanding a concept to answering a case.

1,500+ practice questions, multiple unit mocks and explanations that help you understand why an answer fits.

Your CITF Study and Revision Support

Learn

Follow the unit plan. Use teaching, recordings, visual summaries and the AI study assistant to make difficult topics clearer.

Practise

Work through topic questions and timed unit mocks. Compare your reasoning with the explanations, not just the answer letter.

Improve

Review weaker topics and recurring errors. Bring questions to faculty support, then test your understanding with fresh practice.

One Singapore Trade Transaction, Five Decisions

A Singapore electronics distributor buys US$120,000 of components from an ASEAN supplier. The buyer wants 60-day terms; the supplier wants payment security.

Decision What you work through
1. Settlement Compare open account, collection and documentary credit against the buyer’s terms and supplier’s payment-security needs.
2. Financing Identify who needs working capital, when the funding gap starts, how long it lasts and what it costs.
3. Risk Assess buyer, supplier, bank and country risks, plus currency exposure and compliance concerns.
4. Documents Identify the required presentation and check the simplified shipment-date discrepancy below.
5. Digitalisation Consider what changes with an electronic transport document: accepted format, applicable rules, access, authenticity and secure handling.

This case brings ITPS settlement and risk concepts together with ITFD financing, documentation and digital trade.

Original practice extract

Latest shipment date
15 June
Presentation period
Within 21 days after shipment
Credit expiry
10 July
Bill of lading: shipment date
18 June

Simplified teaching extract, not a complete letter of credit.

What should the learner notice?

A presentation can fall within the presentation period and still contain a separate problem. Here, shipment occurred after the stipulated latest shipment date.

Do not treat a valid presentation date as proof that every credit condition is satisfied. Identify each requirement separately, then establish what needs further review.

See the financing calculation and faculty reasoning

At an illustrative 8% annual rate for 60 days on an actual/365 basis, the finance charge on US$120,000 is approximately US$1,578, before fees.

Calculation: 120,000 × 0.08 × 60 ÷ 365. A real quotation may use a different day-count basis and additional charges.

Faculty feedback: first separate the buyer’s financing need from the supplier’s payment-security need. Then compare the instrument, bank undertaking, conditions, cost and risks. A documentary credit is not an unconditional guarantee of payment.

Electronic-document discussion: do not assume a scanned PDF is an electronic bill of lading. Establish what the instrument and applicable framework accept, who controls the record, and how authenticity and cybersecurity are managed. Where a credit incorporates eUCP, review its electronic-presentation requirements.

How your answer improves: instead of “an LC is safest,” explain which party is protected, what conditions apply, where the funding comes from and what remains at risk.

CITF vs GTC, CDCS, CSDG and CTFP

Choose a foundation, specialist qualification or practical workshop based on your role and experience.

Route Typical learning focus
CITF Level 3 RQF foundation spanning trade settlement, financing, documents and risk.
ICC Global Trade Certificate (GTC) Alternative foundational route from ICC Academy, with broad self-paced trade-finance learning.
CDCS course in Singapore Level 4 specialisation in documentary credits and document examination.
CSDG course in Singapore Specialist study of demand guarantees, including relevant standby-credit concepts.
ICC Certified Trade Finance Professional (CTFP) Advanced, broader trade-finance study for experienced professionals.
Practical Letters of Credit course Focused workplace application of documentary-credit rules and banking practice, rather than a full professional qualification.

CITF is not a compulsory prerequisite for CDCS. Qualification preparation and short practical workshops meet different needs.

Explore trade finance courses in Singapore or read how CDCS certification works.

For focused workplace skills, explore our practical Bank Guarantees & Standby LC training in Singapore. CITF remains the broader trade-finance qualification route.

Where Can CITF Lead Next?

Build on your foundation in the direction your work requires: documentary credits, guarantees, supply-chain finance or trade risk.

CDCS deepens documentary-credit knowledge; CSDG preparation focuses on guarantees; CSCF develops supply-chain-finance knowledge; and CITR focuses on international trade risk.

How can CITF contribute towards LIBF’s QTFE diploma?

LIBF’s Diploma for Qualified Trade Finance Experts (QTFE) combines qualifications. The published pathway accepts CITF or CPCM, plus CDCS or CSDG, plus CSCF or CITR. Alternatively, three of the listed Level 4 certificates can meet the qualification combination.

Completing CITF alone does not award QTFE. Check the current LIBF progression requirements when planning further study.

Can CITF holders use ICC Academy’s Core CTFP route?

Yes. ICC Academy currently accepts CITF as prior qualification evidence for its Core CTFP route. This route comprises five advanced courses and a final examination, rather than the standard nine-course programme.

You still need to register with ICC Academy, supply qualification evidence, complete the required courses and pass its exam. See the official Core CTFP route for current conditions.
