CSDG Course at a Glance
Prepare for CSDG in Singapore with specialist faculty, practical guarantee documents and a clear route from learning the rules to applying them under exam conditions.
What is CSDG?
CSDG stands for Certificate for Specialists in Demand Guarantees. It is a LIBF Level 4 qualification focused on demand guarantees, relevant standby-credit principles, the parties’ obligations and the examination of demands.
EduDelphi provides teaching, resources and exam preparation. LIBF, part of Walbrook Institute London, controls qualification registration, assessment and the CSDG award.
What will you learn to do?
Read guarantee wording carefully, distinguish the underlying contract from the independent undertaking, identify the applicable rules and examine what has actually been presented.
Work through URDG 758, complementary ISDGP practice, counter-guarantees, amendments, expiry, extend-or-pay situations and relevant ISP98 concepts.
CSDG Qualification Facts
The CSDG qualification is endorsed by ICC and supported by BAFT and TTP. These relationships apply to the LIBF qualification, not to EduDelphi as a training provider.
Qualification and designation
LIBF Level 4, with one unit: Principles and Practices of Demand Guarantees. Successful candidates may use the CSDG designation during its three-year validation cycle.
International CSDG Registry
Successful candidates are listed in the international CSDG Registry while their designation remains current. Continued listing requires successful recertification.

Who Should Take This CSDG Course?
For professionals who want to understand guarantees in depth—not just recognise the terminology.
- Bank guarantee, trade-operations and trade-services professionals
- Transaction-banking and regional trade-finance teams
- Treasury, commodity and trading-company professionals
- Procurement, project and commercial teams working with guarantees
- Documentary-credit specialists expanding into guarantees
- Candidates seeking structured CSDG preparation or focused revision
There are no formal qualification entry requirements. You should be comfortable studying in English at Level 4. Relevant experience helps you apply the material; newer learners can build their foundation before tackling complex demands and simulations.
If you need broad trade-finance knowledge first, compare our CITF course in Singapore. CITF is not a compulsory prerequisite for CSDG.

CSDG Syllabus: Demand Guarantees, URDG 758 and Standby Credits
The official qualification has one unit: Principles and Practices of Demand Guarantees (PDG). Our teaching breaks its connected concepts into clear, practical topics.
Guarantees, parties and applicable rules
Understand the undertaking
- Tender, performance, advance-payment and other demand guarantees
- Demand guarantees, suretyships, indemnities and standby letters of credit: legal and operational differences
- Applicant, beneficiary, guarantor and advising-party roles
- Independence from the underlying commercial contract
Apply the right framework
- URDG 758 and when the rules apply
- International Standard Demand Guarantee Practice (ISDGP 814)
- Relevant ISP98 principles for standby arrangements
- Governing law, jurisdiction and external risk factors
Drafting, issuance, amendments and counter-guarantees
- Interpret wording, documentary conditions and the scope of the undertaking
- Issuance, advising and amendments
- Direct guarantees and cross-border counter-guarantee arrangements
- Amounts, reductions, transfer and assignment considerations
- Expiry, termination and reduction events; practical operational controls
- Transmission and translation issues
Follow each undertaking separately. A counter-guarantee and the beneficiary-facing guarantee do not become the same obligation simply because they support one transaction.
Demands, document examination and risk
- Presentation requirements and supporting documents
- Examination of demands and identification of non-compliance
- Payment, rejection, waiver and notice requirements for non-complying demands
- Extend-or-pay situations and force majeure
- Party, operational, cross-border and compliance risks
- Check the accuracy of guarantee and standby-credit documents
- Case questions and document-checking simulations
Practise separating the key facts from distracting commercial detail, then explain the rule and wording behind your decision.
1. Structure
Identify the parties, purpose and undertaking.
2. Issue and Amend
Read the text and track what changes.
3. Examine the Demand
Compare requirements with the documents.
4. Decide and Close
Apply the relevant obligations, notices and expiry provisions.
ISDGP complements URDG practice; it does not replace the rules. Not every rule applies to every guarantee or standby. View the current official CSDG specification.
Learn, Practise and Improve with Your LMS
A deep set of resources, organised around a simple study journey.
Learn
Use live teaching, recordings, notes, visual explanations and AI study support to understand difficult concepts.
Practise
Start with guided examples, then move to guarantee documents, demand exercises, explained questions and multiple timed mocks.
Improve
Review mistakes, ask faculty to explain unclear points and focus revision on the topics and document decisions that need more work.
Use mind maps, infographics, checklists, glossary, study planners and revision aids alongside teaching. The AI study assistant helps you understand course concepts and navigate your learning resources.
Plan independent study alongside live tuition. LIBF identifies 256 total qualification hours. Your 40+ live faculty-led hours are one part of preparation, alongside reading, practice and mock review.

Practise with Guarantee Texts and Demand Documents
Build confidence through guided examples before adding exam time pressure.
Work through original guarantee texts, amendments, beneficiary demands and counter-guarantee situations. Identify the applicable undertaking, read its requirements and compare them with the facts presented.
Faculty feedback helps you distinguish a missed discrepancy, an issue incorrectly flagged, and a correct conclusion reached for the wrong reason.

Original Practice Example: What Must Be Presented?
Original EduDelphi teaching example—not an official or recalled exam question
The fictional guarantee
- Context
- A Singapore supplier provides a performance guarantee for a regional project.
- Assumptions
- The guarantee is subject to URDG 758. The demand is presented at the correct place before expiry. No other issue is introduced in this example.
- Required document
- A signed beneficiary demand stating the amount claimed, supported by a statement indicating how the applicant is in breach.
- What arrives
- A signed demand stating the amount, with a separate invoice but no supporting statement indicating the breach.
Practice question
Does the invoice, on its own, satisfy the missing supporting-statement requirement described in this guarantee?
Worked explanation
No, not on the stated facts. The examiner must compare the presented documents with the guarantee’s requirements and applicable rules. An invoice showing an amount is not, by itself, the required statement indicating how the applicant is in breach.
The learning point is to identify the precise documentary requirement—not assume that a commercial document fills every gap. In a complete case, learners also examine the other requirements, relevant timing and the appropriate next steps.
This simplified example teaches one document-checking point. Full exercises introduce additional wording, documents and decisions.

Demand Guarantees in Singapore Banking and Business
Connect the qualification with guarantee decisions across Singapore and regional transactions.
| Work context | Relevant learning |
|---|---|
| Bank guarantee and trade operations | Wording, issuance, amendments, demands, examination and operational escalation |
| Treasury and regional headquarters | Security arrangements, party obligations and cross-border guarantee structures |
| Procurement, infrastructure and projects | Bid, performance and advance-payment guarantees, expiry and commercial risk |
| Trading, shipping and ASEAN commerce | Counter-guarantees, international counterparties, transaction risk and rule application |
Singapore’s eGuarantee@Gov initiative provides a useful digital-guarantee context. From April 2025, relevant new government tenders and licences requiring guarantees moved to digital guarantees.
Training distinguishes the delivery channel from the undertaking: a digital guarantee does not automatically incorporate URDG 758 or change every documentary requirement. Read the text, applicable rules and beneficiary process.
These skills support professional development; the qualification does not guarantee a job, promotion or salary increase.

CSDG vs CURDG, CDCS and CITF
Choose the route that matches your professional focus.
| Route | Focus | Typical direction |
|---|---|---|
| CSDG | Specialist demand-guarantee and relevant standby-credit qualification | Guarantee practice, demands, examination and technical judgement |
| ICC CURDG | Focused URDG 758 and ISDGP certification | A narrower rules-focused ICC route; not the same qualification as CSDG |
| CDCS | Documentary credits and document examination | Specialist letter-of-credit preparation |
| CITF | Broad trade-finance foundation | Settlement, financing, documents and risk across instruments |

After CSDG: Progression and Recertification
CSDG can be part of a wider trade-finance learning path. Depending on your role, explore documentary credits, supply-chain finance, trade risk or broader advanced study.
CITF → CSDG → specialist guarantee knowledge
CSDG + complementary LIBF certificates → QTFE
CSDG → Core CTFP / advanced trade-finance study
These are possible study routes, not mandatory steps. CITF is not required before CSDG.
How can CSDG contribute to QTFE or Core CTFP?
LIBF’s QTFE pathway combines CITF or CPCM, CDCS or CSDG, and CSCF or CITR. Alternatively, three of the listed Level 4 qualifications can meet the qualification combination. CSDG does not award the diploma on its own.
ICC Academy also offers a Core CTFP route for eligible CSDG holders. ICC lists Core CTFP as 25 credits toward LIBF recertification. Check its current admission requirements and package directly. Explore the official Core CTFP route.
How do I keep my CSDG designation current?
The designation has a three-year validation cycle. Current recertification requires 36 relevant CPD learning hours or professional-development units, or the applicable re-examination route. Follow LIBF’s acceptance, evidence and reporting requirements.
Keep records of relevant professional learning. EduDelphi’s certificate of training is separate from official qualification and recertification decisions.
