What is US CPA?

CPA stands for Certified Public Accountant. The US CPA route combines the Uniform CPA Examination with the education, experience and licensing requirements of a US state or jurisdiction. It is relevant to professionals working with US GAAP, audit, tax, financial reporting and international finance teams.

EduDelphi provides training, practice and application guidance. The examination is developed by the AICPA; NASBA supports the examination process, and US state boards issue CPA licences. Passing the exam and obtaining a licence are separate steps.

Explore our accounting courses in Singapore if you are comparing professional pathways.

Who Should Take the US CPA Course?

For accounting graduates and professionals in audit, reporting, financial control, shared services and regional finance who want a structured US CPA pathway.

Suitable career backgrounds

  • Accountants and financial-reporting professionals
  • External auditors and assurance teams
  • Controllers and regional finance professionals
  • Graduates and working candidates comparing international accounting qualifications

Start with a Free Eligibility Review

Share your degree, transcripts, professional qualifications and experience. We provide a written profile review, suitable state-board options and the next steps to investigate.

Education and experience rules vary by jurisdiction. Do not assume that one universal credit-hour rule applies to every candidate.

Singapore degree holders, ACCA members and CA-qualified candidates can request a profile review. Where required, an accepted international credential evaluation helps the board assess your education. Read our state-board guide for international CPA candidates.

CPA Eligibility Is Changing: 120 vs 150 Credit Pathways

There is no single US CPA eligibility rule that fits every candidate or every state board.

CPA eligibility and licensure are jurisdiction-specific. The traditional 150-semester-hour route is no longer the only model pathway. NASBA and AICPA’s current model legislation also recognises a bachelor’s-degree pathway paired with additional professional experience, but each state board decides what it adopts and when.

Model licence pathway Education Professional experience
Graduate degree route Graduate degree in accounting 1 year
Traditional route Bachelor’s degree in accounting + 30 additional semester credits (150 total) 1 year
New model route Bachelor’s degree in accounting (120 semester credits) 2 years

This is why EduDelphi reviews your transcripts, accounting credits, business credits, experience and intended licence outcome before suggesting a jurisdiction. The table shows model pathways, not a universal guarantee. A state may adopt, modify or retain different rules. Tennessee, for example, has 150+1 and 120+2 routes from 2026.

Read NASBA’s explanation of the current model pathways.

Where Can a Singapore CPA Candidate Actually Take the Exam?

As of October 2026, Singapore is not an international CPA Exam testing country. Singapore candidates therefore need an authorised overseas Prometric location after a participating US jurisdiction has declared them eligible and an NTS has been issued.

International testing Current NASBA surcharge
Most listed international locations US$390 per section
India US$460 per section

NASBA currently lists nearby options including the Philippines, South Korea, Japan and India, subject to Prometric appointment availability. Malaysia is not on NASBA’s current international list. These charges are additional to domestic/state examination fees and are non-refundable.

Do not book flights until your eligibility, NTS, international registration and Prometric appointment are confirmed.

See NASBA’s international testing guidance and our guide to taking the CPA exam outside the US.

US CPA Course Syllabus: Core and Discipline Sections

Each section is a separate four-hour examination. Open a section below to see its topic areas and current weight ranges.

How we prepare you: Extend REG foundations into deeper tax planning and compliance decisions. Best considered alongside your intended US tax exposure.

Testing REG or TCP in late 2026?

Make sure your preparation reflects the current tax-law testing position. The AICPA updated the 2026 REG and TCP blueprints for H.R. 1 tax provisions, with certain changes becoming testable from 1 July 2026. EduDelphi resources should match the candidate’s actual exam date rather than an older 2026 tax version.

Read AICPA’s explanation of the H.R. 1 CPA Exam update.

Discipline selection does not create a separate type of CPA licence. Compare the fit below and review the official CPA Exam Blueprints. For a longer explanation, read our US CPA syllabus guide.

Choose BAR, ISC or TCP

Discipline Main focus Useful alignment
BAR Advanced reporting, business analysis and government accounting Financial reporting, technical accounting and analytical finance interests
ISC Systems, security, privacy and SOC engagements IT controls, technology assurance and systems-risk interests
TCP Advanced US tax compliance and planning US tax practice and deeper individual/entity tax interests

Choose using your strengths, experience and career direction, not a promise that one section is universally easier. Faculty can help you compare the study demands before you commit.

See our guide to CPA exam sections.

US CPA Exam Format, Passing Score and Scheduling

Section Multiple-choice questions Task-based simulations
AUD 78 7
FAR 50 7
REG 72 8
BAR 50 7
ISC 82 6
TCP 68 7

75 is a scaled score, not 75% correct. The CPA Exam uses a 0-99 reporting scale and section-specific scoring methods. See AICPA scoring guidance.

Core vs Discipline scheduling

AUD, FAR and REG use continuous testing. BAR, ISC and TCP are currently offered during designated Discipline windows, generally the first month of each quarter. Always check the current AICPA calendar before selecting your exam sequence, then plan around NTS validity and international appointment availability.

Check the official CPA score-release calendar.

Planning into 2027?

AICPA has announced CPA Exam user-interface changes beginning 12 July 2027, with no testing from 1-11 July 2027. Candidates should check the current announcement when planning appointments and practice interfaces.

US CPA Skills for Singapore Finance Roles

Use the qualification where its knowledge fits your work: international reporting, audit, financial control and regional finance.

Singapore work environment Relevant CPA learning
US-linked multinational and regional finance teams US GAAP, reporting, reconciliations and accounting judgement
Audit and assurance Risk assessment, evidence, professional responsibilities and reporting
Controllers and shared-service teams Financial statements, controls, close processes and analysis
Technology and systems assurance interests ISC systems, security and SOC concepts
US tax-related work REG foundations and, where selected, TCP depth

These are career alignments, not a promise of a job or salary increase.

Does US CPA Let Me Sign Audit Reports in Singapore?

Not automatically. US CPA is a US state/jurisdiction licence pathway. Singapore has a separate framework for the CA (Singapore) designation and registration as a Public Accountant with ACRA.

For candidates graduating on or after 1 January 2019, ACRA’s current professional-examination page lists the Singapore CA pathway and specified reciprocal international qualifications. AICPA/US CPA is not listed in that post-2019 group. AICPA appears in ACRA’s separate pre-2019 list. If your goal is to practise public accountancy or audit Singapore financial statements, review the current ACRA/ISCA pathway before choosing a qualification.

If your goal is US GAAP, US-listed-company reporting, regional finance, SOX, international audit or US tax exposure, US CPA may address a different professional need.

Check ACRA’s current professional-examination requirements.

US CPA vs Other Professional Accounting Routes

Route Core professional direction
US CPA US accounting, audit, US GAAP, regulation and US tax
Singapore CA Singapore chartered-accountancy pathway
ACCA Broad international accounting qualification
CPA Australia Australian professional-accountancy programme
US CMA Management accounting, costing, FP&A and decision support

If your main direction is internal audit rather than accounting or reporting, compare CIA training in Singapore separately. For financial-reporting development alongside a professional route, explore IFRS training in Singapore. You can also read our CPA vs ACCA guide.

US CPA Course Singapore FAQs

Can I attend CPA classes in Singapore?

Yes. EduDelphi offers physical Singapore classroom batches, Singapore-friendly live online, private 1:1, supported self-paced and corporate delivery. Contact the team for current classroom and schedule options.

Is this a US CPA course or Singapore CA training?

This is preparation for the US Uniform CPA Examination. US CPA and Chartered Accountant of Singapore are different routes. A US CPA licence does not automatically grant the Singapore CA designation or local public-accountant registration.

Can I take the US CPA exam in Singapore?

Singapore is not currently on NASBA’s supported international CPA testing-country list. You can study here, but need to plan an authorised overseas testing location. Confirm the location and your eligibility before arranging travel.

Where can a Singapore candidate take the CPA Exam?

NASBA currently lists international locations including the Philippines, South Korea, Japan and India. Availability depends on a participating jurisdiction, your NTS and Prometric appointments. International surcharges currently apply, so do not book travel until every step is confirmed.

Can I join with a Singapore degree, ACCA or CA qualification?

We can review your education, transcripts and professional qualifications to identify suitable jurisdictions and any further steps. Acceptance and credit evaluation depend on the chosen state board and its evaluation rules; a qualification name alone does not establish eligibility.

Do I need 150 credits to become a CPA?

Not in every jurisdiction. The traditional 150-credit route remains important, but NASBA and AICPA now recognise a 120-credit bachelor’s-degree model paired with additional experience. States adopt these models differently, so we review your actual profile and intended jurisdiction before guiding you.

How much live CPA training is included?

The full live programme includes 160+ faculty-led training hours. You should also allow substantial independent reading, practice, simulations and mock revision. Section-wise routes are available for candidates preparing for fewer sections.

Which CPA exam sections must I pass?

Pass the three Core sections, AUD, FAR and REG, plus one Discipline: BAR, ISC or TCP. All three Discipline choices lead to the same CPA licence framework, subject to the selected jurisdiction’s licensing requirements.

Does the course include UWorld or Gleim?

UWorld and Gleim are optional review-resource choices. Your selected package confirms any licensed review access. EduDelphi’s extensive LMS, teaching and practice support remain central to the preparation route.

What does the EduDelphi LMS include?

Recorded classes, notes, revision resources, cheat sheets, mind maps, infographics, question practice, simulations, mock exams, study planning, weak-area analysis, an AI study assistant and much more. Live faculty support helps you resolve difficult concepts and use your practice results effectively.

Does self-paced CPA study include tutor support?

Yes. The supported self-paced route combines recorded teaching and LMS resources with live faculty support. It is designed for candidates who want flexibility without studying entirely alone.

Do you provide feedback on mocks and simulations?

Yes. Multiple mocks and task-based simulation practice are supported by live tutor feedback. Faculty help you review mistakes, interpret exhibits, improve question technique and focus revision.

What is the CPA passing score?

Each section requires a score of 75 on the CPA Exam’s 0-99 reporting scale. This is a scaled score, not a requirement to answer exactly 75% of questions correctly.

Are exam and evaluation fees included in tuition?

EduDelphi tuition is quoted in SGD. State-board, evaluation, examination, international testing and licensing charges are separate. Your written quotation confirms the training and any optional review resources included.

How long does CPA preparation take?

A full study route commonly spans around 6-12 months, depending on your starting knowledge, available study time, chosen Discipline and exam schedule. We help you build a section-by-section plan and adjust it using practice results.

Can I enrol for one section or retake preparation?

Yes. Full-programme, section-wise, Discipline and retake preparation routes are available. Tell us which sections you have passed and where you need support.

Does passing all four exams automatically make me a licensed CPA?

No. The state board also checks its education, experience, ethics and other licensing requirements. EduDelphi supports your planning; the relevant board makes eligibility and licensing decisions.

Is SkillsFuture Credit available?

Eligible Singapore Citizens may be able to use their SkillsFuture Credit (Base Tier) for selected EduDelphi courses through an individual case-by-case assessment by SkillsFuture Singapore. EduDelphi can provide the supporting course invoice, syllabus, learning outcomes, enrolment documentation and other supporting documents required for the application. Confirm acceptance with SkillsFuture Singapore before relying on funding.

Can my company sponsor training or arrange a private cohort?

Yes. We provide SGD quotations, course outlines and learning outcomes for employer approval. Private classroom, onsite, live-online and blended cohorts can be planned around your finance team’s needs and reporting calendar.
