CMA Course in Dubai – Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Final-year and recent graduates in Dubai can start preparing for and attempting CMA exams while still studying. You will receive the CMA certificate once you complete the required bachelor’s degree and 2 years of relevant work experience.

You can appear for and pass both CMA exam parts before completing your work experience. However, IMA will award the CMA certificate only after you submit proof of 2 years of relevant experience within 7 years of passing the exams.

No. There is no negative marking in the CMA exam. Incorrect answers do not reduce your score.
CMA exams are offered in three testing windows each year: January–February, May–June, and September–October. You can choose any available date within these windows at Prometric centers in the UAE.
Each CMA exam part is scored on a scale of 0–500. You need a minimum score of 360 to pass each part.

We suggest to study 150 to 200 hours for each part. Based on the hourly / daily / monthly commitments candidate can clear the CMA Exam within 6 to 8 months. However, many students take longer due to competing life priorities. The IMA provides a three year period of eligibility when you first register for the exams.

Prepare to complete certification requirements including submitting your education transcript and work experience. This can be done before or after passing the exam, but is required as a final step to become certified.

Each part of the CMA exam has 100 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and 2 essay scenarios with multiple questions in each scenario. You have to answer at least 50% of your MCQs to open up the essay question portion of the exam. The MCQs are worth 75% of the weight of your total score on the CMA exam.

Candidates must complete the CMA program within three years from the date you purchase the CMA entrance fee. If you do not successfully complete both parts within three years of entering the certification program, the passed part will expire.

ICMA® (Institute of Certified Management Accountants) is the certification affiliate of IMA. ICMA is responsible for developing, administering, and grading the CMA (Certified Management Accountant) exam; establishing the policies and procedures for the CMA program; and for ensuring the program’s overall integrity. The CMA exams are computer-based and administered at hundreds of Prometric testing facilities worldwide. With three testing windows each year, you can sit for an exam at a time and place convenient for you.

Performance Reports are sent via e-mail from Prometric to all candidates who take an exam part. The performance reports are emailed approximately 14 days after exam results are posted to the candidate’s profile.
Candidates who do not pass the exam will receive a report that indicates their performance on each of the key topic areas in the multiple-choice section as well as their overall performance on the essay section of the exam.

On the IMA website, click “My Profile” and then “My Certifications.” There you will find your exam status and transcript, information on your work experience and education, and more

If you reschedule or cancel an appointment within 30 days of your appointment date you will be required to pay a rescheduling fee to Prometric.
The exam appointment must be cancelled 72 hours (3 days) before the exam date, based on the policy from Prometric.
Appointments cannot be rescheduled to another testing window.

If you fail any part of the CMA exam, you have 2 options. Your first option is to take that part again but you can’t do so in the same testing window, but you can sit in as many testing windows as necessary to pass both parts within 3 years. You’re already an IMA member and qualified to sit for the exam.
