Eligibility and route

CPPM Eligibility Requirements: CPP, Experience and APS Application

To pursue APS CPPM certification, candidates currently need at least two years of purchasing-related experience and must already hold the APS Certified Purchasing Professional (CPP) credential or apply for CPP and CPPM together. CPP must be awarded before CPPM. APS separately requires its three-week CPPM preparation course and examination and makes the final certification decision.

Your situation Correct route
Already hold an active CPP Apply for CPPM and complete the applicable APS route.
Not yet CPP but meet the experience requirement Consider a concurrent CPP + CPPM application; APS must award CPP before CPPM.
Less than the required purchasing experience Build relevant experience and assess an earlier purchasing route before CPPM.

Do You Need CPP Before CPPM?

Yes. CPP is the foundation APS uses for the CPPM route. You can already hold CPP, or apply for CPP and CPPM together. APS will not award CPPM until the CPP requirement has been fulfilled.

Check your route

Confirm whether CPPM alone or a combined CPP + CPPM path fits your current background and goals.

Prepare with EduDelphi

Use live teaching, cases, practice, mock review, recordings and a realistic weekly study plan.

Complete APS requirements

APS separately manages application review, its required official course and examination process.

Maintain CPP and CPPM

Keep the underlying CPP current and follow APS’s applicable update requirements.

Important distinction: APS’s 100-point assessment framework belongs to the CPP classification. CPPM course credits should not be confused with a separate 100-point CPPM eligibility score. Explore the global CPP course if you need to establish the first step.

CPPM syllabus

APS CPPM Syllabus: Purchasing Management, Suppliers, Controls & Leadership

APS controls the required official CPPM course and examination. Its published CPPM preparation topics focus on the management, commercial and operational knowledge a purchasing manager needs. EduDelphi adds separate applied teaching, practice and mock support.

1. Purchasing policy, law and management foundations
Purchasing policies and procedures, purchasing-law awareness, strategic purchasing objectives, management duties, procurement-management responsibilities and organisational structure.
2. People, ethics, quality and purchasing-team leadership
Business and organisational psychology, human-resources context, diversity, selecting and training buyers, supervision, purchasing ethics, job design and quality management.
3. Financial, inventory and purchasing-control decisions
Accounting context, procurement controls, cost and price analysis, purchase-versus-lease decisions, payment methods, inventory management and security issues.
4. Suppliers, international purchasing and negotiation
Supplier relationship management, supplier performance, international purchasing, supplier negotiation, stakeholder communication, purchasing mathematics, management tools and green purchasing awareness.
5. EduDelphi applied interpretation, questions and mock review
Original case-led practice for supplier evaluation, total cost, negotiation preparation, contract and control decisions, procurement KPIs, stakeholder communication, revision planning and mock debriefs. This is EduDelphi preparation methodology, not an additional official APS syllabus claim.
Applied purchasing case

CPPM Practice Scenario: Lowest Price or Better Total Value?

A buyer has two viable suppliers. One offers the lowest unit price; the other offers stronger delivery performance, clearer quality controls and more reliable payment/continuity terms. The decision cannot safely be made from price alone.

What the learner must decide:

  • Which commercial requirements are non-negotiable?
  • What total-cost, service and supplier-risk evidence is still needed?
  • How should the recommendation be documented for stakeholders?
  • What negotiation or contract actions could improve the outcome?
Decision framework

Build the purchasing judgement behind the answer

Strong manager-level answers separate a quote from a complete commercial recommendation. Learners compare requirement clarity, supplier capability, quality, risk, delivery, payment, inventory impact and stakeholder priorities before defending the preferred approach.

This first-party applied case is deliberately separate from APS’s official course/exam process.

Official APS route

How Does the CPPM Examination Work?

APS currently administers the CPPM examination through its separate required three-week official CPPM preparation course. APS states that the examination is taken during the final weekend of that official course. EduDelphi preparation can help you build knowledge and study discipline beforehand, but it does not replace the APS course, examination or certification review.

Official course

Three-week APS course

APS currently uses a separate online preparation course as part of its CPPM route. Check the current official calendar before scheduling leave or payment.

Exam details

Only published facts

APS publishes the final-weekend route. It does not publicly state one universal CPPM question count, duration or pass percentage on its course page, so this page does not invent them.

If you need a retake

Current APS reference

APS currently lists an US$80 retake setup fee, a two-week post-course period to pay and retake, and up to three attempts. Confirm live terms directly with APS.

Fees and cost planning

CPPM Course Fees: EduDelphi Training + Official APS Costs

What does CPPM stand for?
CPPM stands for Certified Professional Purchasing Manager, an APS credential for professionals progressing into purchasing-management responsibility.
Is CPPM the same as CPP?
No. CPP is the Certified Purchasing Professional credential and the underlying APS requirement for CPPM. APS currently requires candidates to hold CPP or apply for CPP and CPPM together; CPP must be awarded before CPPM.
Does CPPM have a separate 100-point requirement?
APS’s published 100-point framework is associated with CPP classification. CPPM candidates must meet the applicable APS CPP/CPPM route, course, examination and review requirements. APS makes the final decision.
What does the official CPPM course cover?
APS currently publishes topics including purchasing policy and law, management, people and ethics, quality, purchasing controls, accounting, inventory, suppliers, international issues, negotiation, communication, mathematics, management tools and green purchasing.
How does the CPPM exam work?
APS currently administers the examination through its separate required three-week official CPPM course, with the exam in the final weekend. APS does not publicly publish one universal question count, duration or pass percentage on the relevant CPPM course page.
What happens if I fail the CPPM exam?
APS currently states that a retake may be arranged for an US$80 setup fee. The student has two weeks after the official course ends to pay for and take the retake, with up to three attempts under the current published terms.
How long does APS take to process CPPM certification?
APS currently advises allowing roughly 40-60 days for each CPPM process, although timing can vary with application completeness, references, examination results and application volume. Candidates pursuing CPP and CPPM together should also allow for the CPP review.
Can I transfer, reschedule or extend the APS CPPM course and exam?
APS currently publishes separate transfer, rescheduling and emergency-extension policies. Charges and timing depend on when the request is made, and only one transfer is permitted under the stated policy. Confirm live APS terms before payment or travel planning.

Yes. EduDelphi can plan private cohorts around team size, roles, country/time zone, preferred timing and whether the group needs CPPM route preparation, wider purchasing capability support, or both.
Does EduDelphi replace APS’s official CPPM course and exam?
