CMT FAQs
The CMT Exams are open to current and aspiring professionals with an interest in developing skills for better investment decisions. The CMT Designation is formally recognized by FINRA and establishes credibility for individuals seeking new career opportunities in the financial services industry.
The CMT Program consists of three levels: Level I and Level II are entirely multiple-choice exams while Level III is short answer and multiple-choice question format.
As of January 2019, the CMT Association discontinued its membership requirement for candidates. Find out more here. The exams for all three levels are administered twice a year, in June and December. Candidates may only take one exam per administration.
The difficulty level of the exam is fairly reasonable as reflected from historical pass rates of around 70%
The ethics questions are comprehensive and shouldn’t be treated lightly. All three exams require independent study. The CMT Association recommends 80-120 hours of study for Level I; 100-140 hours for Level II; and 120-160 hours for Level III.
