CISA Certification Requirements

 
To become a certified CISA, you will first need to pass the certifying exam. Applicants will need a minimum of five years’ work experience as an information systems auditor. However, you can waive up to three years of that experience requirement if you’ve met the following criteria:

One year of experience as an Information Systems auditor. You may also submit one year of non-IS auditing experience.

A two or four-year degree, which can be substituted for the experience requirement, provided that your degree was earned within the previous 10 years. The associate’s degree can substitute for one year of experience, while a bachelor’s degree will substitute for two years.

Hold a master’s degree in Information Security, Information Technology, or the equivalent. A graduate degree can count for one year of experience.

Two years’ experience as a university professor of computer science, accounting or information systems auditing can be substituted for one year of experience in the field.

 
Once you fulfill the experience criteria, you will have to agree to the ISACA code of professional ethics. Adhere to the continuing professional education (CPE) program, which confirms that you continue to develop as a professional. Maintain your membership fees to the ISACA and complete at least 20 CPE hours per year.
 
You will also have to agree to maintain the auditing standards of the ISACA and of all CISA holders. If it is found that a CISA’s work is not in compliance with the association’s standards, that professional might lose credential standing or otherwise face disciplinary measures

Exam Information

 
The online registration process will enable you to register for an exam, purchase study aids and an ISACA membership, which will immediately provide significant exam-related discounts. The final step of the process will enable you to pay online using a credit card or indicate that payment will follow by check or wire.
 

Exam Scheduling

 
Candidates are able to schedule their exam for any available date/time/location within their 365-day eligibility period. When scheduling an exam, candidates must select either online remote proctoring or an in-person testing center. Candidates who are unable to take their exam on their scheduled date are able to reschedule during their eligibility period if completed more than 48 hours prior to the original scheduled testing appointment.

The CISA exam consists of 150 multiple-choice questions covering the CISA job practice domains.

CISA Certification Cost

 
Eligibility is established at the time of exam registration and is good for twelve (12) months (365 days). Exam registration and payment are required before you can schedule and take an exam. You will forfeit your fees if you do not schedule and take the exam during your 12-month eligibility period. No eligibility deferrals or extensions are allowed.
